Found all over Australia and particularly common in urban areas, Red-Back spiders can deliver an extremely painful bite. Thank goodness for Dr Saul Wiener, who discovered an anti-venom in 1956.
Issued as legal tender of Tuvalu, the obverse of the coin depicts the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Weight and metal quality, along with the year of issue are also engraved there.
Striking black and red coloring on the reverse design brings this little devil in to sharp focus on the coin's brilliant mirror-like background. Legend RED-BACK SPIDER and monetary denomination are also present there.
