Coin Story
Just like all the above mentioned places of interest, Dougga is also a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. The city which is located in Tunis, was probably the first capital City of Numidia before it was annexed by Julius Caesar in 46 B.C.
Reverse Design
The reverse depicts the Dougga. The ruins are finely engraved into the background of the coin. Parts of them offset themselves against the silver proof background, due to the applied color. The image is very detailed and beautifully designed.
Obverse Design
The front of the coin depicts the South Sea Island of Palau’s coat of arms – a sea god with a mermaid and a boat typical of Oceania. The name of the issuing nation ‘REPUBLIC OF PALAU’ appears along the top edge and the face value of ‘5 $’ is indicated in the exergue.
