Coin Story
The Belém Tower is an architectural jewel which dates back to the 16th century. It was erected during the reign of King Manuel I and is one of the most famous landmarks of Lisbon.
Reverse Design
The reverse depicts the Belem Tower. The tower is finely engraved into the background of the coin. Parts of it offset themselves against the silver proof background, due to the applied color. The image is very detailed and beautifully designed.
Obverse Design
The front of the coin depicts the South Sea Island of Palau’s coat of arms – a sea god with a mermaid and a boat typical of Oceania. The name of the issuing nation ‘REPUBLIC OF PALAU’ appears along the top edge and the face value of ‘5 $’ is indicated in the exergue.
