The new Legendary Weapons series by the British Virgin Islands is represented by three .925 silver gilded coins dedicated to the Bow of Hercules, Excalibur and Ascalon. Each coin is available in an individual wooden single case with the mintage quantity of 3 000 pieces or in a 3-coin collection case limited to 500 pieces only.
The portrait of Her Majesty Elizabeth II is traditionally placed on the obverse of the coin. It is surrounded by the inscriptions denoting the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin, the name of the issuing country and the year of mintage.
The gilded image of the legendary sword Excalibur shares the coin reverse with the relief depiction of King Arthur holding it. Legend has it that Arthur of Camelot turned out to be the true king of England when he pulled out a sword that was embedded into a large stone. According to another version, Arthur and Merlin rode to a lake where they saw an arm clothed in white samite, rising from the water and holding a sword. Excalibur was believed to possess magical powers: the scabbard protected the owner from being mortily wounded while the sword itself was supposed to be unbreakable. The inscriptions on the reverse include the name of the coin and its face value. The coin will be a great addition to a collection of unique history-themed coins. Don’t miss out your own Excalibur!
