The 2013 issue of the the Perth Mint's Endangered and Extinct Series, a tribute to one of the most particular and famous Tasmanian creatures: the Tasmanian Devil. This spellbinding 999 silver 1oz Proof is sure to be a sell out, just like its predecessor! The reverse showcases two Tasmanian Devils, an adult with his baby. In rich color, this silver coin illustrates the particularity of this vulnerable creature. The coin is issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu. The Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the 2013 year-date appear on the obverse coin. The coin is housed in a high gloss wooden case with a birds eye wood inlay, accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
The Tasmanian devil is the largest of the marsupials that eat meat. It is a nocturnal animal, lives alone and prefers its own company hence it is a relatively shy animal. They are found in northern, eastern and central Tasmania, the island state of Australia. Their habitat is wooded countryside, in forests and near the outer suburbs of many towns. Devils are black with a white mark on the chest and rump, and look similar to a medium sized, solid dog. Their tracks are in a diamond pattern: a single pawprint, followed by two pawprints side by side, and then another single print. They are classified as vulnerable (close to being endangered) and are completely protected. An epidemic called Devil Facial Tumour Disease is now having a terrible effect on the Tasmanian devil population. Tasmanian Devils are often hit by cars as they feed on road killed animals, and they are losing parts of their habitat due to mans.
