Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Evangelist was the son of Zebedee and Salome — daughter of St. Joseph. Simultaneously with his older brother James, he was called by our Lord Jesus Christ among His disciples on the lake of Gennesaret. Leaving his father, two brothers followed the Lord. The Apostle John was especially fond of sacrificial love for the Savior and virginal purity. After his call Apostle never parted with the Lord and was one of three disciples whom He was particularly close. Around ‘95 Apostle John wrote the gospel in Ephesus. He urged all Christians to love the Lord and each other and that fulfill the commandments of Christ.

Apostle of love calls the Church of St. John, because he constantly taught that without love man can not get closer to God. In three letters written by the apostle John says about the importance of love for God and neighbor. Holy Apostle John died at the age more than a hundred years. He is far outlived all other witnesses of the Lord, long staying only living witness of the Savior’s earthly ways.​
