The only survived to our time tea clipper “Cutty Sark” continues the series of the fascinating silver coins dedicated to the "Sailing ships".

The obverse of the “Cutty Sark” silver coin represents in its upper part the image of the national coat of arms of the Republic Belarus. In the center of the obverse, featured against background of the navigation sea chart, is an incredible image of wind rose coated with a hologram made by laser method. The year of issue and face value is denoted along the rim of the silver coin.

Capturing the gorgeous clipper “Cutty Sark”, the skillfully crafted reverse design, represents this unique sailing ship in all its impressive beauty. The Cutty Sark’s extraordinary name comes from a poem by Robert Burns called “Tam O’Shanter” and means “short shirt” in Scottish. In this poem, the main character is pursuited by witches, the fastest and the most beautiful and seductive was the witch dressed in a linen nightgown (sark), which was given to her when she was a little girl, and this explains the fact that the shirt was too short (cutty) for her. Despite that the “short shirt” is untypical name for sailing ships, it must be admitted that it is rather suitable for this slender and fast tea clipper, surrounded with an aura of magic and mystery.
