Another brilliant issue in the captivating Butterflies series of coins bears the title Apatura Iris. Issued by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, it is dedicated to a Purple Emperor, a magnificent butterfly of a unique purple sheen intersected with white bands.
The obverse of this silver butterfly coin represents the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus surrounded by the inscriptions of the issuing country and year. There are also the legends denoting the face value of the coin and its metal fineness against the background of a stylized enlarged piece of a butterfly wing.
Revealed on the reverse, there is an excellently crafted colored image of a Purple Emperor, also known as Apatura Iris. This butterfly usually flies high in the tree-tops of well-wooded landscapes across Europe. Unfortunately, the species is a threatened one due to chemical pollution and destruction of forests. Thanks to the pad printing technique the image on the coin displays the genuine colors of the butterfly. At the bottom of the reverse, there is the inscription denoting the Latin name of the beautiful insect. This silver butterfly coin has got the mintage quantity of only 8 000 pieces worldwide, so hurry up to add a new gem to your coin collection!
