History of the series:
The set of silver collector coins of the „Painters of the World” series started in 2006, very popular among collectors, has been enriched by another, seventh coin devoted to a remarkable German painter - Albrecht Dürer issued by the Principality of Andorra.
Albrecht Dürer (May 21, 1471 – April 6, 1528) is regarded as the greatest artist of the Northern Renaissance and one of the best printmakers of all time. Famous for his religious works, numerous portraits and self-portraits and highly appreciated for his significant input to the development of engraving. In order to make the coin of this series more attractive, the Mint of Poland decided to employ the etching technique, which makes this coin distinguished from the rest of the collection.This method, innovative among the collector coins, was used on the obverse of the coin, thus enabling to copy a well-known engraved 1504 “Adam and Eve” portrait in the tiniest detail and with utmost perfection.
Obverse:
In the central part, an insert – etching picture of “Adam and Eve” engraving– one of the most famous engraving of Albrecht Dürer. On the left side, a vertical inscription in Catalan language, PRINCIPAT D’ANDORRA (Principality of Andorra). At the bottom, on the left, the Coat of Arms of the Principality of Andorra and the Mint Mark “MW”. Under the “Adam and Eve” engraving, on the right side, a year of issue, 2010 and a nominal value of the coin, 10 D., which means 10 Diners.
Reverse:
In the left corner, a self-portrait of Albrecht Dürer –at the bottom, a stylized inscription: Albrecht Dürer 1471-1528 (years of his birth and death). At the background, an image of his painting “Adoration of the Holy Trinity
