Claudia Cardinale (*April 15, 1938). Besides Sophia Loren, Claudia Cardinale is also considered to be one of the most prominent Italian Film Divas.
Despite early achievements such as winning the beauty competition in Tunis for the “Most Beautiful Italian Girl 1957”, she has remained a modest woman, without scandals and without any airs and graces up until today. In the role of the young widow in arguably the best western of all times, “Once Upon a Time in the West“, Claudia Cardinale finally made her mark on film history in 1968. The moment in which the lonely “Jill McBain” discovered the bodies of her new family will never be forgotten. Not one word was needed to portray her enormous despair and infinite grief to the viewers. A close-up of her eyes was more than sufficient! This glance made one’s hair stand on end and is one of the biggest movie moments up to now.
Despite obscurity and lack of funds, Bruno Bernard (1912 - 1987) set up his first darkroom in the basement of his Hollywood apartment in 1940. Shortly thereafter, he moved his studio to the famous Sunset Strip. “No one knew the name Bernard, but they all knew Hollywood“, and hence the optical trademark signature Bernard of Hollywood, which ensured the image of glamour visually for decades, was created. Bruno Bernard was considered as the “King of Hollywood glamour” and Marilyn Monroe’s discoverer. In 1984 Bernard was the first photographer to be honoured with an Oscar at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
