The motifs in the reverses of the coins are taken from three of his masterpieces:
“Fight with Cudgels” also called “Duel with Cudgels” (1820–1823). It shows two men, possibly brothers, fighting with cudgels, locked in mortal combat and imprisoned up to their knees in mud or sand.
“The Clothed Maja” (1798–1805), a clothed version of “Naked Maja”. The identity of the model and why the paintings were created are still unknown. Both paintings were first recorded as belonging to the collection of Prime Minister Manuel de Godoy.
“The Wine Harvest” (1786-87). Scenes from everyday life at the time is the main motif in a series of paintings Goya did between 1786 and 1788.
