"Karate" is the next coin from the "Art of Fighting" series. In 2011 the "Wushu" and "Judo" were issued. In 2012 an issue of "Karate" and "Koch" (Armenian fight) are planed.
Karate ("empty hand") is a martial art developed in late XIX century in the Ryukyu Kingdom prior to its annexation by Japan.
Karate is a striking art using punching, kicking, knee and elbow strikes, and open-handed techniques such as knife-hands.

An image of the old gate to the Kingdom of the Ryukyu (Okinawa), ornaments around the coin. Inscriptions: "Republic of Armenia", "1000 Dram" (in English and Armenian) and "2012".
Reverse
Three fighting sportsmen, a landscape of Okinawa on the background. Inscriptions: "Karate" (in English and Armenian) and a hallmark "Ag 925".
